Dhobi Ghat

You might think it’s a bit too late to cite this article or an opinion on it, which I’d agreed to some extent, but having said that I also believe that it’s never too late to appreciate a well done job.

So here let me talk to you of a movie that smeared my thinking about the curve Indian cinema could breed on.

Dhobi Ghat / Mumbai Dairies

Every year literally hundreds of thousands throng to the city of dreams – Mumbai. Predominantly in the hope of making it big someday, only to realize the struggle brings the best or worst of them all.

Over the years, this facade of Mumbai has been depicted by quite a number talented directors or screenplay writers in their respective movies, but very few of them have sketched the city with such tender love, care and affection, and I staunchly believe that Kiran Rao has done complete justice in her debutant venture Dhobi Ghat.

The movie displays life and its complexities with such ease. The intertwining relationships & emotional strings that are imperceptible attached to each one of us, is depicted with immense variance. To the extent, that at some point you can relate to either or each of these characters.

The metaphor is simple but powerful that - Mumbai is a dying & decaying city, but yet the one that is definitely alive and watches over all.

The movie is symbolic and vibrant cinematic portrait; expecting it to be a stream commercial Bollywood masala flick would be nothing but prejudice.

On the whole, Dhobi Ghat is an imposing and vivacious movie, appending itself to the new wave of independent Indian cinema which I am extremely pleased to applaud.

It is art house cinema with crisp sensibilities, embellished with a well thought out story that's devoid of cliches. This ingenious motion picture caters more to the intelligentsia and connoisseurs of world cinema.

Overall Review:

Dhobi Ghat is an acquired taste. Either the film will sink into your skin like a slow ache or it will be bewildering and downright boring.

Men in Blue...

11 years and 11 months world champion Aussie, will have a day to remember 25th March 2011.

I’m not much a fan of Yuvraj Singh, as Sachin takes that place. But having said that, Yuvraj performed marvelously; like a true star, a perched sportsman who maintained utmost endurance, which of course wouldn’t be the same without Raina’s sturdy support.

It was definitely daunting for India to chase 261. Let’s admit it, just after Mahi’s dismissal the game seemed quiet in Aussie’s favour; however couple of fours and a six from Raina changed the entire equation.

Undoubtedly the boys have made Mahi & all us Indian very proud of a sport the country goes ballistic.

Men in blue will now go forward to what will be an even more tumultuous occasion on Wednesday, a semi-final against their great rivals Pakistan.

Way to go boys!!!

Taking Time for Yourself

It is certainly difficult to spend quality time with yourself in everyday’s hustle and bustle. But I guess trying to fit a little of self-time won’t cause any harm.

Here’s a list of a few things you can always attempt in pursuit of self-time.

• Take deep breath and think peaceful thoughts.

• Remember the last time you had a good laugh and it will bring a smile to your face.

• Visualize yourself in a peaceful place.

• Cuddle and pet a puppy/kitten. Not only will they love it but you can forget about everything for a bit.

• Reflect on all the things for which you are grateful.

• Listen to a song or relaxation tape that uplifts you.

• Express your thoughts and feelings in a journal.

• Ask yourself what you really feel like doing right now, and then do it.

• Go for a walk in the park or by the ocean.

• Take a nap.

• Go to a bookstore (by yourself so that you can browse to your heart’s content) and check out new books, listen to music and maybe have a cup of coffee.

Honestly, sometimes the most appropriate thing to do, if you have 10 free minutes, is to water your plants.

So if not all, I hope, you at least endeavour a few of them.

Do leave a post to share your experience.
